Verbeia 2010 Vitigni Barbera 80%-Freisa 20%. 13,5°.
Brachetto Piemonte Doc 6,5°.
Vignot , Moscato passito, l’ultimo arrivato.

From the Langhe hills come nice smells and tastes of Autumn…nov 05
The Gatti wine-house, founded by Piero and at present managed by his wife and his daughter, is located in Santo Stefano Belbo, on the hill of Moncucco, almost representing a cru for the production of Moscato. The family-run method consents to follow the work in the vineyards with very close care and therefore to obtain a premium yield ready to become excellent wine. Moscato is the leading item but also other wines prove to be rather interesting.
The tastings, carried on jointly with our friend and sommelier Paolo Zaini – which I herewith wish to thank for his cooperation to the drawing out of the wine cards – have been the following:
Violetta 2010 – Variety Freisa 13°. Ruby red with violet glares – from which comes the name – elegant at the nose with hints of wild strawberries, raspberries and some graphite; good freshness, quite intense and persistent, ends with a taste of bitter almonds.
Verbeia 2010 – Varieties: Barbera 80% , Freisa 20 %. Quite complex at the nose, with scents of red fruits, dry, warm, cleans the palate very well, optimum quality-to-price ratio.
Moscato 2011 Piemonte DOC made with Moscato Canelli grapes, 5,5°. The harvest takes place at the end of August, then the grapes are stemmed and crushed; very close attention is paid to the fermentation phase, to prevent that the aromas are dispersed. So many scents are raised up to the nose by the many tiny bubbles released in the glass! Flowers, fruits, herbs are all part of an extremely delicate and fragrant bouquet. Quite long in the mouth, not cloying at all.
Bracchetto Piemonte DOC, 6,5°. This wine is very sought after in Japan, Korea, Holland. The nose feels scents of roses, wild fruits, cherry, plum and the taste feels all of them once more.
Vignot, a withered Moscato, the newcomer. The name means “small vineyard” and states its origin: a little vineyard that, since 2007, yields grapes which are then left over to wither. The color of Vignot is a pleasant, intense shade of yellow, the aroma recalls withered fruits, soft and persistent matches very well the traditional desserts of Piemonte.
